Monsoon Skincare Routine for Humid Indian Cities
Humidity above 80% changes everything: textures, cleansing and actives. A simple AM/PM routine for monsoon skin, plus what to stop using.
When the humidity sits above 80%, your skin behaves differently. Sweat and sebum mix on the surface, pores clog faster, and the rich cream that worked in winter suddenly feels like cling film. Monsoon is also peak season for fungal acne, the itchy little uniform bumps that don't respond to normal acne treatments.
What to change
- Swap creams for gels. A lightweight gel moisturiser is enough. Your skin is not short of water, it just needs a light seal.
- Use a matte gel sunscreen. UV is still high on cloudy days, and gel textures survive sweat better.
- Add salicylic acid. It is oil-soluble, so it gets into sweaty, congested pores. Two or three nights a week is enough.
- Don't stack acids. Heat plus humidity plus multiple exfoliants is a fast route to irritation.
A simple monsoon routine
Morning: gel cleanser, niacinamide serum, gel moisturiser, matte SPF 50.
Night: cleansing balm or micellar water, then gel cleanser, then salicylic acid (Mon/Wed/Fri) or a hydrating serum (other nights), then gel moisturiser.
Fungal acne watch-outs
If you get itchy clusters of identical bumps on your forehead, chest or back, avoid heavy oils (coconut and olive), polysorbates and fermented ingredients for a few weeks. Our ingredient-list analyser flags common triggers.
