Hair routines by porosity
Frequently asked questions
What is hair porosity?
Porosity is how easily your hair absorbs and holds moisture. It depends on how open the cuticle (the outer layer) is. Low-porosity hair resists water, high-porosity hair absorbs and loses it fast, and medium sits in between.
Is the float test accurate?
Only roughly. Oils, product residue and hair thickness all change how a strand floats. That is why this quiz combines it with drying time, product absorption and your chemical history.
Can hair porosity change?
Yes. Bleaching, rebonding, keratin treatments, heat and sun raise porosity over time. You cannot lower it permanently, but conditioners, protein treatments and acidic rinses make high-porosity hair behave better.
Which oil is best for hair porosity?
Low porosity suits light oils (argan, grapeseed, jojoba) used with gentle heat. Medium porosity does well with coconut or almond oil. High porosity benefits from pre-wash coconut oil and heavier sealants like castor oil or shea butter.
