Will it break you out?

Paste any moisturiser, sunscreen, serum or foundation ingredient list. We check every ingredient for pore-clogging (comedogenic) ratings and fungal-acne triggers, even with typos.

How to read your result

  • 0–1 · Low Very unlikely to clog pores.
  • 2 · Mild risk Fine for most people. Very acne-prone skin should watch it.
  • 3–5 · Pore-clogging Commonly linked to breakouts. Avoid in leave-on face products if you are acne-prone.

The clean score is the share of recognised ingredients that are neither pore-clogging nor fungal-acne triggers. Ingredients near the top of the list are present in the highest amounts, so a pore-clogger at position 3 matters more than one at position 25.

Frequently asked questions

What does comedogenic mean?

Comedogenic means likely to clog pores and cause comedones (blackheads and whiteheads). Ingredients are rated from 0 (will not clog pores) to 5 (very likely to clog pores) on the Fulton scale.

What is fungal acne?

Fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) is not true acne. It is an overgrowth of yeast in the hair follicles that shows up as itchy, uniform small bumps, often on the forehead, chest and back. The yeast feeds on certain oils, fatty acids, esters and polysorbates.

Is "non-comedogenic" on the label reliable?

Not always. The term is not regulated in India, the US or the EU, so products labelled non-comedogenic can still contain ingredients such as isopropyl myristate. That is why scanning the actual ingredient list is useful.

Where do I find the ingredient list?

On the back of the box or tube, usually starting with "Aqua" or "Water". Brand websites and Nykaa or Amazon product pages also list them under "Ingredients".
