The verdict

Both are similarly gentle. Choose based on your main goal: Bakuchiol for aging, texture and pigmentation, PHA for texture, hydration and dullness.

Using both? Safe to mix There is no known chemical conflict between Bakuchiol and PHA, and neither makes the other less effective. They share a goal (texture), so together they reinforce each other. How to layer them →

Bakuchiol in short

A plant extract (from babchi seeds) that works like retinol in small studies, with far less dryness and no sun sensitivity. It is milder and slower than a true retinoid.

PHA in short

Polyhydroxy acids are the gentlest chemical exfoliants. They work only on the surface, hydrate at the same time, and are usually tolerated by sensitive and rosacea-prone skin.
