Using both? Safe to mix There is no known chemical conflict between Retinal and Tea Tree Oil, and neither makes the other less effective. They share a goal (acne), so together they reinforce each other. How to layer them →
Retinal in short
Retinaldehyde is one conversion step closer to retinoic acid than retinol, so it works faster than retinol while usually being gentler than tretinoin. It also has a mild antibacterial effect useful for acne.
Tea Tree Oil in short
An essential oil with modest evidence against mild acne. It works more slowly than benzoyl peroxide but causes less dryness. Undiluted it can irritate or sensitise skin, so it belongs in a formulated product.
