Can you use Bakuchiol with Retinal?

Safe to mix

Yes, it is safe.

There is no known chemical conflict between Bakuchiol and Retinal, and neither makes the other less effective. They share a goal (aging, texture and pigmentation), so together they reinforce each other.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Bakuchiol and Retinal together?

Yes, it is safe. There is no known chemical conflict between Bakuchiol and Retinal, and neither makes the other less effective. They share a goal (aging, texture and pigmentation), so together they reinforce each other.

Which goes first, Bakuchiol or Retinal?

Apply Bakuchiol first, then Retinal. The general rule is thinnest to thickest texture, and lowest pH first.

Should I use Bakuchiol in the morning or at night?

Bakuchiol: works morning or night. Use twice daily. It is stable in sunlight, so a morning application is fine.

Should I use Retinal in the morning or at night?

Retinal: best at night. Start at 0.05% two or three nights a week and build up slowly. Buffer with moisturiser if you are sensitive, and wear SPF daily.

Is Bakuchiol with Retinal safe during pregnancy?

Retinal is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about safer alternatives such as azelaic acid or bakuchiol.
