Both are similarly gentle. Choose based on your main goal: Kojic Acid for pigmentation, Lactic Acid for texture, dullness, hydration and pigmentation.
Using both? Safe to mix There is no known chemical conflict between Kojic Acid and Lactic Acid, and neither makes the other less effective. They share a goal (pigmentation), so together they reinforce each other. How to layer them →
Kojic Acid in short
Derived from fungi used in rice wine and soy sauce production, kojic acid blocks the enzyme that makes melanin. It is effective on dark spots but can cause contact sensitivity in some people.
Lactic Acid in short
A gentler AHA with a larger molecule. It exfoliates while also acting as a humectant, so it suits dry and sensitive skin that cannot tolerate glycolic acid.
