The verdict
For dullness and pigmentation, Vitamin C is the stronger option, while Lactic Acid is gentler and better suited to sensitive or beginner skin.
Using both? Use with caution Pure vitamin C is already acidic. Layering Lactic Acid on top lowers the pH further and raises the risk of stinging and irritation. Use vitamin C in the morning and Lactic Acid at night. How to layer them →
Lactic Acid in short
A gentler AHA with a larger molecule. It exfoliates while also acting as a humectant, so it suits dry and sensitive skin that cannot tolerate glycolic acid.
Vitamin C in short
A powerful antioxidant that brightens dull skin, fades dark spots and boosts your sunscreen's protection against free radicals. Pure L-ascorbic acid works best at a low pH and oxidises (turns orange) quickly.
