For texture, Retinol is the stronger option, while Urea is gentler and better suited to sensitive or beginner skin.
Using both? Great combo Urea cushions Retinol: it hydrates and supports the barrier while the active does its work. That means less irritation and better results. How to layer them →
Retinol in short
The most studied over-the-counter anti-ageing active. Retinol speeds up cell turnover, softens fine lines, fades marks and keeps pores clear, but it can cause dryness, peeling and sun sensitivity while your skin adjusts.
Urea in short
A natural moisturising factor that pulls water into skin. At 10% and above it also softens rough, flaky patches. It is excellent for very dry skin, keratosis pilaris and cracked heels.
