Is Retinal safe during pregnancy?

Usually avoided in pregnancy

Usually avoided in pregnancy.

Retinal is usually avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Oral retinoids are known to cause birth defects. Topical absorption is low, but doctors advise stopping all retinoids as a precaution.

Always check with your doctor. This is general information, not medical advice. Your obstetrician or dermatologist knows your history and can confirm what is right for you.

What Retinal does

Retinaldehyde is one conversion step closer to retinoic acid than retinol, so it works faster than retinol while usually being gentler than tretinoin. It also has a mild antibacterial effect useful for acne.
