Can you use Copper Peptides with Retinol?

Use with caution

Yes, but not at the same time.

There is no dangerous reaction, but both are potent and copper peptides are thought to work best on their own. Most people use them on alternate nights.

How to use them

Alternate nights, for example Copper Peptides on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Retinol on Tuesday and Thursday, with a plain moisturiser night in between if your skin feels sensitive. If your skin is resilient and already used to both, you can try layering them: apply Copper Peptides first, wait a few minutes, then apply Retinol.

What Copper Peptides does

A peptide bound to copper that supports wound-healing, firmness and barrier repair. Copper is reactive, so it does not play well with strong acids or pure vitamin C.

What Retinol does

The most studied over-the-counter anti-ageing active. Retinol speeds up cell turnover, softens fine lines, fades marks and keeps pores clear, but it can cause dryness, peeling and sun sensitivity while your skin adjusts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Copper Peptides and Retinol together?

Yes, but not at the same time. There is no dangerous reaction, but both are potent and copper peptides are thought to work best on their own. Most people use them on alternate nights.

Which goes first, Copper Peptides or Retinol?

Apply Copper Peptides first, then Retinol. The general rule is thinnest to thickest texture, and lowest pH first. For this pair, though, it is better not to layer them in the same routine at all.

Should I use Copper Peptides in the morning or at night?

Copper Peptides: best at night. Use at night on nights without acids or vitamin C. A thin layer is enough.

Should I use Retinol in the morning or at night?

Retinol: best at night. Start 2–3 nights a week on dry skin, a pea-sized amount for the whole face, then build up. Always wear sunscreen the next morning.

Is Copper Peptides with Retinol safe during pregnancy?

Retinol is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about safer alternatives such as azelaic acid or bakuchiol.
