Frequently asked questions
Can I use Hydroquinone and Retinol together?
Yes, it is safe. Retinol boosts hydroquinone's penetration, and some brightening products combine them. It is still an irritating pair, so build up slowly and follow your dermatologist's plan.
Which goes first, Hydroquinone or Retinol?
Apply Hydroquinone first, then Retinol. The general rule is thinnest to thickest texture, and lowest pH first.
Should I use Hydroquinone in the morning or at night?
Hydroquinone: best at night. Use only under a dermatologist's guidance, typically nightly on the dark patches for up to 3 months, then take a break. Strict daily sunscreen is required or results reverse.
Should I use Retinol in the morning or at night?
Retinol: best at night. Start 2–3 nights a week on dry skin, a pea-sized amount for the whole face, then build up. Always wear sunscreen the next morning.
Is Hydroquinone with Retinol safe during pregnancy?
Hydroquinone and Retinol is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about safer alternatives such as azelaic acid or bakuchiol.
