What Hydroquinone does
The strongest topical depigmenting agent, used for melasma and stubborn dark spots. It blocks melanin production, but it must be used in short, supervised courses: long-term use can cause irritation and, rarely, ochronosis (blue-black darkening).

What Tea Tree Oil does
An essential oil with modest evidence against mild acne. It works more slowly than benzoyl peroxide but causes less dryness. Undiluted it can irritate or sensitise skin, so it belongs in a formulated product.
