Frequently asked questions
Can I use Hydroquinone and Tretinoin together?
Yes, it is safe. This is the backbone of the dermatologist "triple combination" (Kligman) formula for melasma. Tretinoin helps hydroquinone penetrate. It is effective but irritating, so use it only under medical supervision.
Which goes first, Hydroquinone or Tretinoin?
Apply Hydroquinone first, then Tretinoin. The general rule is thinnest to thickest texture, and lowest pH first.
Should I use Hydroquinone in the morning or at night?
Hydroquinone: best at night. Use only under a dermatologist's guidance, typically nightly on the dark patches for up to 3 months, then take a break. Strict daily sunscreen is required or results reverse.
Should I use Tretinoin in the morning or at night?
Tretinoin: best at night. Use only as prescribed: a pea-sized amount on completely dry skin at night, starting 2–3 nights a week. Expect dryness and a possible purge for 4–8 weeks. Daily SPF is essential.
Is Hydroquinone with Tretinoin safe during pregnancy?
Hydroquinone and Tretinoin is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about safer alternatives such as azelaic acid or bakuchiol.
