Can you use Adapalene with Benzoyl Peroxide?

Unlike retinol, adapalene is stable next to benzoyl peroxide. Dermatologists prescribe them together in one gel for acne. The combination is very drying, though, so it is best used under medical guidance with a good moisturiser.

How to use them

Alternate nights, for example Adapalene on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Benzoyl Peroxide on Tuesday and Thursday, with a plain moisturiser night in between if your skin feels sensitive. If your skin is resilient and already used to both, you can try layering them: apply Benzoyl Peroxide first, wait a few minutes, then apply Adapalene.

What Adapalene does

A synthetic retinoid built for acne. It unclogs pores and calms the inflammation behind breakouts. It is more stable than retinol, and in India it is sold as a gel (often by prescription).

What Benzoyl Peroxide does

It kills acne-causing bacteria (C. acnes) by releasing oxygen into the pore. It works fast on inflamed pimples, but it is drying and can bleach towels and pillowcases.

Is Adapalene with Benzoyl Peroxide safe during pregnancy?

Adapalene is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about safer alternatives such as azelaic acid or bakuchiol.
