Can you use Retinal with Squalane?

Great combo

Yes, and they work even better together.

Squalane cushions Retinal: it hydrates and supports the barrier while the active does its work. That means less irritation and better results.

How to use them

Use them in the same routine at night. Apply Retinal first, then Squalane, moving from thinnest to thickest texture.

What Retinal does

Retinaldehyde is one conversion step closer to retinoic acid than retinol, so it works faster than retinol while usually being gentler than tretinoin. It also has a mild antibacterial effect useful for acne.

Yes, and they work even better together. Squalane cushions Retinal: it hydrates and supports the barrier while the active does its work. That means less irritation and better results.

Which goes first, Retinal or Squalane?

Apply Retinal first, then Squalane. The general rule is thinnest to thickest texture, and lowest pH first.

Should I use Retinal in the morning or at night?

Retinal: best at night. Start at 0.05% two or three nights a week and build up slowly. Buffer with moisturiser if you are sensitive, and wear SPF daily.

Should I use Squalane in the morning or at night?

Squalane: works morning or night. Press 2–3 drops in as the last step at night, or mix a drop into your moisturiser.

Is Retinal with Squalane safe during pregnancy?

Retinal is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about safer alternatives such as azelaic acid or bakuchiol.
